Hybrid working the new norm, survey finds

25 Feb 2022

A survey carried out by the Chartered Management Institute (CMI) has found that hybrid working has become the new norm for many UK employees.

The CMI recommended hybrid working as 'best practice' for many firms, but noted that some senior staff are now encouraging their employees to return to their workplaces.

The survey revealed that 84% of firms adopted hybrid working during the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic. Employers in the transport and trade industries were less likely to offer hybrid working according to the CMI, and large companies were more likely than smaller businesses to make use of hybrid working.

Ann Francke, Chief Executive of the CMI, said: 'It would be very short sighted of bosses not to see some correlation in the shift in the working world and the move towards hybrid working.

'We are experiencing an uptick in productivity and an uptick in many companies' results. We're not saying everyone should work from home 100% of the time, we're saying the best practice is to have a blend, so when you come into the office you can do those things that are very difficult to do remotely.'
